Neither team has any major injury problems, but Chelsea does have a fixtures list pileup problem. They will have their FA Cup clash with Manchester United in 2 days and this is followed up with a match against Rubin Kazan in Thursday’s Europa League match.
Southampton put together a good outing before the international break in their 3-1 win over Liverpool. Chelsea has had a streaky season despite having put together 2 straight wins in the EPL. This could be a very exciting match with two teams that play attacking football. I could see this one being rather high scoring. Chelsea needs to get a win to remain in contention for a 3rd place (or possibly even 2nd) finish, but also will almost certainly rest players in preparation for the FA Cup quarterfinal replay. Southampton will also be looking to get a win at home to push themselves out of the relegation battle.
I’m predicting a draw with plenty of goals. While I’m picking it at 2-2 I won’t be surprised to see more goals than that. I also would not be at all surprised by either team getting a win.
Southampton (W, L, L, D, W) 2 – 2 Chelsea (L, W, L, W, W)
