Sunday’s only Premier League match was Aston Villa v Liverpool. Aston Villa really needed a win or draw to stay out of the bottom of the EPL table. Liverpool are basically out of the running for a European place, but needed a win to be able to feel like their dream was still alive. Not to mention that they will want to finish higher than their 8th place finish last season.
Aston Villa v Liverpool
First Half:
Henderson goal:
Suarez/Gerrard penalty:
Aston Villa looked the better side throughout the first half and took a 1-0 lead into the break. Liverpool came out as the better team in the second half and got back into the game thanks to a nice Jordan Henderson goal in the 47th minute. Liverpool got the win when Luis Suarez was taken down in the box. It was a clear penalty and there was no question of whether it was a dive.
Aston Villa’s loss means they are in the drop zone in 18th place, level on points with Wigan, but with a game in hand.
