Premier League Preview for Hull v Liverpool along with Predictions for every result in the EPL. Follow up each match with results and video highlights posted later in the week.
In last week’s match against Norwich, Newcastle United was largely dominant in offensive statistics despite having 49% possession. They had 21 shots with five on target and six blocked while also having 84% pass completion. One key statistic is that they also had 12 successful dribbles. Defensively they allowed the one goal (in the 80th minute) coming from ten shots with two on target and two blocked.
West Brom faced Aston Villa in Monday’s match and managed to give up a 2-0 half time lead to get pegged back to 2-2. In the end they should be bitterly disappointed with the outcome especially considering how Villa resorted to long ball tactics to eventually get the draw. In the match West Brom took 11 shots putting four on target and having two blocked. They conceded 15 shots with seven on target (five saves for Myhill) and two blocked shots. They also had 10 tackles compared to Villa’s 20. In the end, West Brom should have done better, especially in the defensive third. In away EPL matches West Brom is 1-4-1 having allowed eight goals and scoring six.
My prediction is for a Newcastle win. It should be a close match and one that West Brom could get a result from. Newcastle’s home form has been good, especially lately with back to back wins to go with their three consecutive Premier League wins. West Brom has played well lately, but has also had defensive lapses that Newcastle can capitalize on.
Betting Odds: Newcastle win: 2.02-2.10; Draw: 3.45-3.62; West Brom win: 3.65-3.75
Form: Newcastle (W, D, L, W, W, W) West Brom (D, D, L, W, D, D)
Prediction: Newcastle 2 – 1 West Brom
