Arsenal’s bit for a Premier League title and their first trophy in over eight years took a bit of a hit in their 6-3 loss last weekend. Despite that they remain top of the table with 35 points, which puts them two points ahead of Liverpool in second and Chelsea in third. At home this season Arsenal have been unbeaten in their last seven following their week one loss to Aston Villa. While they had question marks in defense at the start of this season they have been solid at the back and have allowed the third fewest goals with 17. Arsenal will be without Jack Wilshire while Laurent Koscielny and Lukas Podolski remain out injured.

Chelsea are just behind Arsenal in both goals allowed (18) and points in the table. A win for them on Monday and they could go top of the table (dependent on Liverpool’s result). Despite this, there are still question marks surrounding Chelsea, especially after losing to Sunderland in the midweek Capital One Cup fixture. What is interesting is that many people point to Chelsea allowing too many goals and not scoring enough, yet they have a +14 goal difference having scored 32 this season. I suppose the reason for this is that they have had so few goals coming from their strikers with only five of their goals coming from forwards Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres, and Demba Ba. Chelsea do not have any major injury concerns for Monday.

I’m predicting a narrow Arsenal win. They have a lot of quality up front and playing at home will make a big difference for them. Missing Koscielny at the back could be troubling, but there is still enough of a foundation there to keep Chelsea at bay. For Chelsea, they will need to be able to control the midfield and remain strong at the back, which isn’t a given considering their lack of clean sheets this season with only four compared to Arsenal’s six.

Betting Odds: Arsenal win: 2.33-2.40; Draw: 3.34-3.45; Chelsea win: 3.12-3.30

Form: Arsenal (L, W, W, W, D, L) Chelsea (D, W, W, W, L, W)
