Arsenal v Coventry FA Cup Fourth Round Preview and Prediction

2014 FA Cup Predictions

Arsenal take on Coventry in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup on Friday evening. The Premier League leaders come into round four having defeated their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at home while Coventry beat Barnsley 2-1 on the road.

The Gunners are in spectacular form having won six matches in a row in all competitions and going unbeaten in their last seven. In this time they have scored two or more goals in five of these matches while also keeping a clean sheet in five of the seven.

When playing at home this season they have lost just three matches in all competitions including one in each of the Premier League, Champions League, and Capital One Cup. They have also kept 11 clean sheets at home and failed to score in just two matches (both against Chelsea). They have also scored at least two goals in 11 home matches.

Arsenal are the current Premier League leaders with a 16-3-3 record to give them 51 points while scoring 43 goals and allowing just 19.

Coventry have been playing relatively well also with just one loss in their last 11 matches and going unbeaten in their last six in all competitions.  Coventry has played four matches in the FA Cup having beaten AFC Wimbledon away 3-1, drawing 1-1 away to Hartlepool then defeating them at home 2-1 in the replay, and then in round three beat Barnsley 2-1 on the road.

Coventry’s fortunes have not been as good as Arsenal’s this season as they currently sit in 11th place in League One with a 12-8-6 record and 34 points. However, they are still within touching distance of a playoff spot being just 8 points off of sixth place.

Prediction: Arsenal 3 – 0 Coventry

It seems like a rather easy prediction to pick Arsenal as winners, but with the FA Cup being what it is, Coventry could get a shock result if they are able to play well enough. Arsenal had some difficulties in overcoming Fulham over the weekend, but were able to come through with a 2-0 win in the end. If Arsenal come out playing poorly Coventry could take advantage, provided they are indeed up for it.

This is a match that could get out of control if Arsenal really turn on the offense, especially if they can score early.

Betting Odds (Ladbrokes): Arsenal win: 1.08; Draw: 7.50; Coventry win: 15.00

Form: Arsenal (W, W, W, W, W, W) Coventry (W, D, W, W, D, D)
