Brighton v Hull City Fifth Round FA Cup Preview and Prediction

2014 FA Cup Predictions

Brighton play hosts to Premier League side Hull City in their Fifth Round FA Cup clash in the lone match on Monday.

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton come into Monday’s match having just won back to back home matches in the Championship with both scores 1-0. This keeps them in contention for a playoff spot moving them into seventh place with 46 points, just one behind the final spot.

In the FA Cup this season they hosted Reading in the third round where they won 1-0 which was followed by the away 3-1 win over Port Vale in the fourth round.

Hull City

Hull City’s recent results have not been terrible, but they remain in the relegation battle for the time being. Most recently they lost 1-0 at home to a tough Southampton team which was preceded by a 2-0 win over Sunderland on the road and a 1-1 home draw against Tottenham.

In the FA Cup, Hull has had a fairly comfortable campaign with two 2-0 away wins in the third and fourth rounds.

My pick is a close match with Hull City coming through as winners. With that said, this is one of those matches that could be an upset. Perhaps not necessarily a shock, but Brighton do have the ability to get a result, even a win.

Betting Odds (Bovada):

Brighton win: 5/4; Draw: 11/5; Hull win: 11/5

Recent Form: Brighton (L, W, D, L, W, W) Hull (L, W, L, D, W, L)

Prediction: Brighton & Hove Albion 1 – 2 Hull City
