Netherlands v Mexico Preview and World Cup Predictions

World Cup 2014 Predictions

This Saturday is the start of the knockout stages in the 2014 World Cup. My picks and predictions for Saturday’s matches will include brief previews for both matches taking place. Read on for my Netherlands vs Mexico preview with prediction and starting lineup.

Netherlands v Mexico – Sunday, June 29 @12pm

The Netherlands stormed through the group stages by scoring 10 goals and allowing just three. These 10 goals was the most of any team in the group stages. They have been able to combine a sturdy midfield and defense with a quick and clinical attack.

Mexico may have a rather aging defense, but, much like the Dutch, they have set up with 5 in defense to make up for this. At the other end of the pitch they also have a speedy front line used to counter attack quickly.

This is shaping up to be a fantastic match that should have some goals in it. Both teams have had solid defensive displays with a pacey counter attacking offense. Mexico will be without one player, Jose Juan Vazquez due to picking up a red card, but otherwise, there are no injuries for either team.

My prediction is a win for the Netherlands. Mexico will not be an easy team for them to face, but both van Persie and Robben have been in the form of their lives and have given a massive lift to this Dutch team. Mexico will provide plenty of spirit and has been playing well, but in the end Holland will be too much for them and will progress.

Predicted Starting Lineups:

Netherlands (3-4-12): Cillessen; De Vrij, Vlaar, Indi; Janmaat, De Jong, De Guzman, Blind; Sneijder; Robben, van Persie

Mexico (3-5-2): Ochoa; Rodriguez, Marquez, Moreno; Aguilar, Herrera, Salcido, Guardado, Layun; Santos, Peralta
