Who Will Be First in This Year’s Premier League Sack Race

Manager Sack RaceEvery season is at least one manager who gets the sack early on in the season. This year it is looking no different with several managers already under pressure after just one month and four matches in the Premier League.

In the Barclays Premier League there are several managers who are struggling to get results and could be put under increasing pressure in the coming weeks if their respective teams continue with their poor form. Here are three managers that could get the sack along with reasons why as well as why not.

1.) Harry Redknapp – Queens Park Rangers

Why he might get sacked: QPR have started out this season with one win and three losses and have scored just one goal. Questions should probably be asked regarding this as well as his insistence on playing with three at the back. He is not known for being a tactician which means that playing three at the back is a very bizarre choice considering how much work it takes to set up this tactic.

Why he will stay: ‘Arry has brought Rangers back into the Premier League after a single season in the Championship. Owner Tony Fernandez will likely hang on to Redknapp at least till December. If QPR are still struggling, that may be the queue to move him on.

2.) Sam Allardyce – West Ham United

Why he might get sacked: Fans have been unhappy with Allardyce for a very long time; basically since he took over back in 2011. At the time West Ham was in the Championship and he was able to steer them back into the Premier League. However, fans have been unhappy with his style of play and continue to insist on wanting the “West Ham way.” At the moment they have one win and two losses (with their week 4 match being played on Monday) and if they continue to lose, Big Sam could be on his way out.

Why he will stay: Their one win was a very convincing 3-1 away to Crystal Palace. There were signs that this team can play attacking football which could extend his stay. Allardyce has already managed to last this long so it’s difficult to think that he will be sacked so early on.

3.) Alan Pardew – Newcastle United

Why he might get sacked: Newcastle United finished last season with two wins out of their last 10 matches. They have started out this season by getting two points from two draws, including the 3-3 at home to Crystal Palace in which they gave away the lead. While they have started out very slowly to begin this season, the pressure is on him more because this is an ongoing trend rather than a new thing. The fans are getting more and more edgy at St. James Park and will only get more upset the longer this continues.

Why he will stay: Pardew has a lucrative and lengthy contract that would see him get a pretty massive payout if he is sacked. Owner Mike Ashley has not given in to fans in the past and has stuck by Pardew so far. You can add to it the fact that he is looking more and more disinterested in owning the club and it looks like the only way Pardew will be given the sack is if the media pressure continues along with the fan pressure.

Of these three it is looking more and more likely that Alan Pardew will be the winner in this year’s Premier League sack race. Pressure has been mounting for quite some time and he may not even make it to week five. The problem that I have with this is that he has not been given much support in terms of maintaining a solid team. There has been a lot of quality at Newcastle in the past few seasons, but these players continue to come and go. Losing the likes of Demba Ba, Yohan Cabaye, and Hatem Ben Arfa are hard to replace and even when they are replaced, they are sold on.

There are plenty of decent managers waiting in the wings to take over with the first manager sacking including Tony Pulis and David Moyes.

Let me know what your thoughts are in the comments below. Who do you think will be the first manager sacked this season? My best prediction would be Alan Pardew considering the current drive to push him out of the Newcastle United door.
